The 2014 QOTDCT Birthday Project

Today I’m using my birthday to raise both funds and awareness for the Open Door Shelter of Norwalk. The shelter has ambitious plans for expanding their services in the community, and the more attention it gets right now, the better. Besides making donations, I’ve also met with its director of development to discuss such topics as promoting benefits on its behalf, such as last September’s concert with P.J. Pacifico and Mystic Bowie. One of the goals of the Birthday Project is to raise awareness about the shelter, especially among my Twitter followers outside Fairfield County.

Here’s how it works: I first follow several ‘verified’ Twitter accounts of celebrities who tend to write fans back personally. I then ask them on July 14th to wish me a Happy Birthday. For every such reply I receive, I’ll donate $5.00 to the shelter. I usually donate considerably more than what I ‘earn’ on that day, and sometimes give a little more if the celebrity also follows the shelter’s Twitter page. (Following my page won’t increase the donation, but it would certainly be appreciated!)

In the process, I also want to break the record for “Most Birthday Wishes From Verified Celebrities On Twitter”, which has stood at 12 for the last two years at the Record Setter website. (If the record’s broken, I’ll post a link to the new record in a reply here.) My hope is that this will garner even more attention for the shelter’s long-term plans.

I hope every ‘verified’ celebrity reading this will help out the shelter just by wishing me a Happy Birthday (at http://www.Twitter.com/QOTDCT). If you’re not one of those celebrities, then you can certainly make this a Happy Birthday for me by donating to the shelter directly:

If you can’t donate right now, please consider at least following the shelter’s Twitter and Facebook pages:

Thanks in advance – and now let’s go make a difference together!
